RECERTIFICATION PROCESS
Requirements
PA-R
( Physician Associate Recertified) is the registered
trademark of National Association For Physician
Associate Recertification (NAFPAR) organization. PA-R
certifies that individuals performing mid-level medical
(Adult, Family, Orthopedic, etc...) services have met
the standards, qualifications, and testing requirements
established by the (NAFPAR) organization. Authorized personnel shall be
limited to them who have passed the initial national
Physician Associate certification exam given by a
nationally recognized organization (NCCPA / AAPA), have
their State license (met all of the State requirements)
to practice in the State of their employment and
successfully practiced for at least five
years as a mid-level medical provider (Physician
Assistant/ Physician Associate). As such, the mark will
only be worn by persons who have:

Graduated from an accredited Physician Assistant / Physician Associate education / training program.

Passed the initial certification exam for Physician Assistant/ Physician Associate given by a nationally recognized certifying body / organization.

Successfully practiced as a Physician Assistant / Physician Associate for at least five years as demonstrated by yearly evaluation documentation or other valid records approved by the National Association For Physician Associate Recertification (NAFPAR) organization.
A. Federal Government Physician Associates are evaluated yearly as a part of their credentialing process. They have the option of submitting a copy of their (successful) yearly evaluation by their Federal Organization; submitting a document from their employee credentialing department documenting successful practice as a Physician Associate for the proceeding five years and/or by submitting a successful practice document as accessed by their collaborating physician.

Completed three hundred continuing medical educational
(CME) credit hours over a
six year period
A. One hundred CME hours must be submitted every two years.
1. At least 75 credits per two year cycle must be AMA category 1 credits.
5. Physician Assistants who obtain their Physician Associate doctorate and/or Masters degrees from an accredited college need only submit 225 (with masters), 180 (with Doctorate) continuing medical educational credit hours over a six year period.
1. Seventy five (75) CME credits must be submitted each two year cycle.

Note: Your State mandated CME requirements for licensing are paramount. We recommend that all Master's level PA's look up their State mandated CME requirements for licensing and comply with them. A Physician Associate will not be certified by NAFPAR if they do not have and maintain their State License.
B. Physician Assistants who obtain their Physician Associate Doctorate degrees from an accredited college need only submit 180 continuing medical educational credit hours over a six year period
A. Sixty (60) CME credits must be submitted each two year cycle.
Note: Your State mandated CME requirements for licensing are paramount. We recommend that all Doctorate level PA's look up their State mandated CME requirements for licensing and comply with them. A Physician Associate will not be certified by NAFPAR if they do not have and maintain their State License.

Maintain a State License within the State of their
employment and adhere to all rules
and regulations set forth by the State.
A. If a Physician Associate looses their State licensing through any means or has their licensing revoked to practice within the State where they are employed their certification and right to wear the PA-R certification is null and void. Their certification to wear the PA-R certification mark will remain null and void until such a time as they regain their state license and/or obtain licensing within another state.
B. In either case it will be the responsibility of the Physician Associate in question to notify the NAFPAR organization of any changes in their licensing.
6. Persons who meet the organizational requirements shall be authorized to wear the mark perpetually, as long as said persons continue to meet their State and the NAFPAR recertifying requirements.
A. Every six years from the date of initial recertification with the NAFPAR organization each Physician Associates documentation will be evaluated by the NAFPAR recertification committee.
B. If all paperwork is submitted as appropriate along with the recertification fee, then said Physician Associate will be recertified for another six years, as well as be authorized to continue wear of the PA-R recertification mark for that time period.

Process
(1) All Physician Associate
(Assistant) recertification's must be renewed every six years on
the last day of the month in which the certificate holders
birthday falls. In order to renew, the licensee must:
- Complete the renewal application;
- Complete the Board approved continuing medical education
requirements;

If intending to continue active practice have a Board approved primary supervising physician and approved job description, or if seeking an inactive certificate, meet the applicable requirements
- Pay a recertification renewal fee.
(2) Approximately 60 days prior to the expiration date of certification, the NAFPAR Recertification Committee may as a courtesy, mail a notice for certification renewal to the last address on file in the Board’s records to every person holding a current NAFPAR certification. Failure to receive such notification shall not relieve the certification holder of the obligation to renew and pay the required fee prior to the expiration date of the certification. Deposit of the renewal fee by the Recertification Committee does not indicate acceptance of the renewal application or that any licensing requirements have been fulfilled.
(3) Failure to renew a certification by the designated expiration date shall result in a penalty fee for late renewal as determined by the NAFPAR Board.
(4) Failure to obtain the continuing education required for renewal may result in the denial of the application for renewal, or renewal of the certification under a consent order with a fine, public or private reprimand and the requirement of additional continuing education.
(5) Certifications expired for three months or less may be late renewed by meeting all the requirements for renewal and paying a late renewal fee.
(6) Certifications that have been expired for longer than 3 months shall be deemed administratively revoked for failure to renew. Such licensees must apply for reinstatement of the license.

discretion of the Board. The physician assistant must be able to
demonstrate to the Board’s satisfaction that:

able to practice with reasonable skill and safety.
(8) A Physician Associate (Assistant)
whose certification has expired may neither practice nor represent
himself as a NAFPAR Certified Physician assistant until such time
that the NAFPAR Board has approved his application for renewal or
reinstatement.
